The initiative is to showcase Uganda’s beauty to Ugandans, East African parks, and foreign residents. The open park days are an opportunity for Ugandans and other interested parties to discover and enjoy the gem in Uganda’s top savannah Parks free of charge. Which parks are free?
Four National Parks shall be open for free visiting! These are Murchison Falls National Park in North Western Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Mburo National Park, and Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve. The details of the open parks are as follows
Murchison Falls National Park
Situated in northwestern Uganda, the park is Uganda’s oldest and largest National park. Murchison Falls National Park is famous for game viewing and a launch cruise to the bottom of the mighty falls. Travelers will enjoy free game drives in the open savannah as well as a hike to the top of the falls. The other activities to do in Murchison Falls National Park include a launch cruise to the bottom of the falls, chimpanzee trekking in Budongo Forest, nature walking, and community tours. Expect to see wild animals such as Giraffes, Lions, Elephants, Buffaloes, Uganda kobs, and Leopards, among others
Kidepo Valley National Park
Located in the far north eastern Uganda, Kidepo Valley National Park is Uganda’s most isolated and least visited Park. The long distance to Kidpeo discourages most travelers from going here. The fewer visits have kept Kidepo Valley natural offering off beaten kind of experiences. Morning and evening game drives in the park are the best time to see wild animals such as Giraffes Zebras, Elephants, Lions, leopards, Cheetahs, and Serval cats, among others. Queen Elizabeth National Park
Found in Kasese district, Queen Elizabeth National Park is another interesting park to visit. The savannah ark is Uganda‘s second-largest park after Murchison Falls National Park. Enjoy free game drives in the Kasenyi plains, the Mweya peninsula, and the Ishasha sector for excellent wildlife viewing. The animals seen in Queen Elizabeth include tree-climbing lions, buffalo, Elephants, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, and wild pigs, among others. Other alternative activities done in the park include boat cruising at Kazinga channel, chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura Gorge, local community tours, bird watching, and Lion tracking, among others.
Lake Mburo National Park
Visit Lake Mburo, Uganda’s smallest savannah park, with lots to offer. The park is home to various wild animals, which include Giraffes, Zebras, Hippos, Buffalos, and Uganda Kobs, among others. Birding, boat cruising, horseback riding, forest walks, community tours, and camping are other interesting activities to do in Lake Mburo National Park
Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve
Formally a wildlife reserve, Pian Upe is one of the newest created National Parks in Uganda. Enjoy a free game drive in the open savannahs of the park, rewarding you with excellent views of different wild animals.
Who is eligible and what is required for open park days
Ugandans who possess a valid National Identification card are free to tour these parks. East Africans are required to present resident permits, while foreign residents must have resident permits.
Exclusions in the open free days
The offer excludes transportation to and from the parks. Interested people are required to transport themselves to any park of their choice. Also, meals are not included in the offer. You can buy and pack your favorite meals at affordable rates. For stayovers, accommodation is also excluded. You will pay for your own accommodation at any hotel or lodge of your choice. Travelers are advised to plan accordingly to avoid being stuck

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
Home to the endangered mountain gorillas, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is a must-see for any primate lovers on Uganda safaris.
