The 7 Days Rwanda safari offers a full-week comprehensive primate trekking experience combined with multiple other activities tailored by Superfine Safaris Limited. During this 1-week safari in Rwanda, expect to enjoy a city tour in Kigali, chimpanzee tracking & canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest National Park. It also includes gorilla trekking and golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park. Besides, you will also have a chance to visit the scenic Lake Kivu and Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up for City tour – Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

Meet our company guide for pick up and be ready for your morning Kigali city tour. The Kigali city expedition takes you to places like the Kigali genocide memorial, Inema Arts Centre, Kandt house, Kimroko market, and more. After the city tour, proceed to Nyungwe Forest National Park in the Southern Province and getting there will take about 6-7 hours.

En route to Nyungwe, there will be a chance to make a stopover at the King’s palace and later settle for lunch in Huye/Butare. Leave Butare for final drop off to the lodge in or around Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking –Canopy walk

Get up early to prepare and after, proceed to Uwinka or Cyamudongo for briefing on chimpanzee tracking regulations. The park official from Nyungwe will also allocate park ranger guide to accompany you on actual chimpanzee trek. You should be fit enough to conquer the high elevation of Nyungwe. Once you have found chimpanzee community, expect to have a maximum of one hour for you to explore how chimpanzees behave and taking pictures.

After incredible moment with Nyungwe chimpanzees, you will return to the lodge to relax and have lunch. In the afternoon, you will get back to the jungle but mainly for a canopy walk. The Nyungwe canopy walk is the first of its kind in the whole of East Africa and expect to walk along the 160 m canopy walkway set about 70m from the forest floor.

Day 3: Transfer to Lake Kivu –Visit the Goma, fishing village

Have breakfast at the lodge and after, proceed to Lake Kivu. At Lake Kivu, you will take a boat to some of the fishing villages. As you ride, you may find fishermen as they go about their fishing activities. After, you will return to relax in the finest accommodation around Lake Kivu.

Day 4: Canoeing – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Expect to begin your canoeing excursion early morning on Lake Kivu. Appreciate the scenic sunrise as you paddle slowly on the lake. Lake Kivu is safe and secure for canoeing because it has no hippos or crocodiles. Return from the morning canoeing expedition and you will be served lunch. After lunch, expect to proceed to Volcanoes National Park in the Northern Province of Rwanda.

Day 5: Mountain Gorilla trekking & Relax

Enjoy a hefty breakfast at the lodge and later, meet your driver guide for you to transfer to Kinigi. At Kinigi, you will get briefed on the guidelines for gorilla trekking and officially get a gorilla group to visit. Out of about 13 habituated gorilla groups in Volcanoes National Park, one will be allocated to you to track in a group of 8 (eight) visitors.

The actual gorilla trek will take about 2-6 hours but includes an hour for a face-to-face interaction with gorillas in their natural habitat. After the magical encounter and taking pictures or videos, you will return to have the rest of the evening in the lodge.

Day 6: Golden Monkey tracking – Visit Ellen DeGeneres Campus

Leave your safari lodge or camp when fully set with essential gear. Today, expect to gather at Volcanoes National Park Ruhengeri offices for a briefing. You will get insight into golden monkey tracking regulations and also the allocation of park ranger guide. Expect to exit the park offices at around 8:00 am to begin your search for a habituated troop of golden monkeys in the wild.

The normal search for golden monkey troop takes about 2-4 hours less or more, depending on the location of these primates, your fitness level, and nature of the habitat. Upon locating these primates, expect to have a maximum of one hour for a face-to-face encounter and photography. Return from the jungle to have a great time at the lodge including having lunch.

Later in the afternoon, you will be transferred to Ellen DeGeneres Campus, which is lying just nearby Volcanoes National Park. The Ellen DeGeneres Camps plays a pivotal role in enhancing conservation and research on mountain gorillas.

Day 7: Visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village & Return to Kigali

Enjoy a hefty breakfast at the lodge, and after, you will pay a visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village. Get to explore more about the unique cultures and traditions of Rwandan people without forgetting the great dances as they entertain you. After the Iby’Iwacu village tour, you will return to Kigali and this brings to an end the 7-day Rwanda safari.
