The extensive 10-day Mount Kilimanjaro hiking adventure involves exploring the Machame route, also most famous as “Whiskey Route.” The Machame hiking route is Kilimanjaro’s most famous route and offers moderate trekking adventures and comes with scenic diversity. The Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up by Tanzanian Driver guide & transfer to Moshi
Get a warm welcome from your driver from Tanzania, and after, you will leave Arusha for Moshi, not far from the foothills of Kilimanjaro. Arrive early at Moshi to check into your hotel.

Day 2: Pre-hiking briefing & any activity
After breakfast, meet the experienced mountain safari guide to get briefed about your day excursion. On this day, essentials to consider include gloves, neck gaiters, camping gear, a safari hat, sunscreen, food, passports, headlamps, bottled water, and more. After the prep from the experts, you may consider engaging in some excursions like cycling or a coffee tour. Alternatively, you may simply spend the rest of the day in the hotel.

Day 3: Connect to the Kilimanjaro National Park, start the hike to Machame
After breakfast in the morning, transfer to Kilimanjaro National Park. Arrive early to clear with authorities, then connect up to Machame Gate (1740m). Machame is the most famous hiking route and leads to the summits of Mount Kilimanjaro. The amazing bit is that you also have a chance to explore ecological richness at the base of the mountain.
Keen trekkers stand a chance to spot mongoose, colobus monkeys, aardvark, and other mammals. Today’s trek ends once you have reached Machame camp (3050m).
Day 4: Proceed from Machame Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Enjoy a hearty breakfast, and after, expect to depart from the Machame camp for Shira 2 Camp. Navigate through the route that is ecologically diverse and comes with breathtaking views of the surroundings. The Shira plateau is 13km to the west of Kibo and is set at an elevation of (3810m). You will ascend up to the Shira 2 camp for you to relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery in the surroundings.
Day 5: Leave Shira 2 Camp for Barranco Camp, make a stop at Lava Tower
Start your hike early, and today, you will be heading to Barranco Camp. Trek through the Alpine desert and continue ascending till you cross the scenic Lava Tower camp (4600m). A lunch break will be had at Lava Tower camp and then you proceed to the Arrow glacier (4860m). From the Arrow glacier, you will arrive at Barranco Camp (3983m) for relaxation and overnight.
Day 6: From Barranco to Karanga
Leave Barranco Camp after breakfast and embark on a hike with a guide. Continue till you cross the Barranco valley and later ascend to the Barranco Wall. Continue through the South circuit route till you reach the Karanga Valley. The final journey will be made at Karanga Camp (4050m), and this is where you will chill for the rest of the evening.
Day 7: Leave Karanga for Barafu Camp
Depart from Karanga and hike to Barafu Camp which sits at an altitude of 4673m. This is the endpoint of the southern circuit hike. Enjoy the mesmerizing views of the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks of Kilimanjaro Volcano. Have adequate time at Barafu Camp as you wait to start the final trek to the last summit.
Day 8: Exit Barafu to the summit, then slope down to Mweka
Start ascending up to the last peak at 5895m, and after breathtaking views, you will return to Barafu for lunch. Have a short rest and later, continue descending to Mweka Camp (3060m).
Day 9: Drive from Kilimanjaro to Moshi
Enjoy a delicious breakfast, and after, you will proceed to Mweka Gate to meet the safari guide. This marks the end of the trekking adventure on Mount Kilimanjaro. You will be transferred to Moshi to relax in your hotel.
