Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Your unforgettable 5 days gorilla safari begins with a pick-up from either Entebbe International Airport, Kampala, or Kigali International Airport, depending on your preferred arrival point. Meet your professional safari guide from Superfine Safaris Limited and receive a briefing before setting off on a scenic journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.

If travelling from Entebbe or Kampala, enjoy a picturesque drive through Uganda’s countryside, passing tea estates, banana plantations, Ankole cattle farms, vibrant local markets, and rolling hills. A stop at the Equator provides an opportunity for photographs and refreshments before continuing southwest through the beautiful Kigezi Highlands.

Guests arriving from Kigali enjoy a shorter transfer through Rwanda’s spectacular “Land of a Thousand Hills” before crossing into Uganda via the Katuna or Cyanika border.

Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon or early evening, check in, and relax while enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding rainforest. Your guide will brief you about the gorilla experiences awaiting you over the next few days.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi

5 Days Uganda gorilla safariWake up early for breakfast before heading to the Uganda Wildlife Authority headquarters for registration and a detailed gorilla trekking briefing. Rangers explain gorilla trekking regulations, safety guidelines, and conservation efforts before allocating each group a habituated gorilla family.

Accompanied by experienced ranger guides and trackers, venture into Bwindi’s dense rainforest in search of your assigned gorilla family. The trek can take anywhere between one and six hours depending on the movement of the gorillas, but every step through this UNESCO World Heritage Site is filled with spectacular scenery, birds, butterflies, and forest wildlife.

The highlight comes when you finally encounter the gorillas. Spend one magical hour observing these gentle giants as they feed, groom one another, care for their young, and interact naturally in their forest home. Watching the dominant silverback protect his family is a truly unforgettable experience.

After the trek, receive your Gorilla Trekking Certificate before returning to the lodge for relaxation. Dinner and overnight at the lodge

Day 3: Relax and Unwind in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After the excitement and physical demands of gorilla trekking, today is dedicated to relaxation and enjoying the peaceful beauty of Bwindi. Sleep in, enjoy a leisurely breakfast, and spend the morning surrounded by the tranquil sounds of the rainforest.

You may choose to relax at your lodge while admiring panoramic forest views, enjoy a massage (where available), read a book by the fireplace, or simply reflect on the incredible gorilla encounter from the previous day.

For guests who prefer gentle activities, optional experiences can be arranged, including a community village walk, a Batwa cultural experience, a coffee tour, or birdwatching around the lodge. These excursions offer a deeper understanding of the local culture and biodiversity without the physical demands of hiking.

The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure before another overnight stay in Bwindi.

Day 4: Gorilla Habituation Experience

5 Days Uganda gorilla safariAfter an early breakfast, drive to the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for one of Africa’s most exclusive wildlife encounters, the Gorilla Habituation Experience.

Following a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority staff, join a small group of only four visitors alongside researchers, veterinarians, trackers, and experienced ranger guides as they monitor a semi-habituated gorilla family.

Unlike standard gorilla trekking, this unique conservation experience allows you to spend up to four hours with the gorillas while learning about their behaviour, feeding patterns, communication, family dynamics, and the gradual process of habituation. Researchers explain how individual gorillas are identified, monitored, and prepared for future tourism.

The additional time provides exceptional opportunities for wildlife photography and allows you to observe a wide range of natural behaviours that are rarely witnessed during the one-hour trekking experience.

After this unforgettable adventure, return to your lodge for a relaxing evening. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge

Day 5: Return to Entebbe, Kampala or Kigali

After breakfast, bid farewell to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and begin your return journey. Guests travelling to Entebbe or Kampala enjoy another scenic drive through southwestern Uganda with optional stops for photography, local craft shopping, and lunch along the way.

If time permits, a stop at the Uganda Equator offers another chance to stretch your legs before continuing to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.

For travelers departing via Kigali, enjoy a shorter drive through the scenic hills of southwestern Uganda before crossing the border into Rwanda and continuing to Kigali International Airport.

Your 5 Days Gorilla Trekking and Gorilla Habituation Safari comes to an end, leaving you with unforgettable memories of two extraordinary mountain gorilla encounters, breathtaking landscapes, and the warm hospitality of Uganda.
