Day 1: Arrive in Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arriving at Kigali International Airport, you will be transferred to your accommodation. Make sure that your flight arrives before 10:00am, as you will be heading to Volcanoes National Park the same day. Otherwise, this 3-day Rwanda Gorillas and Golden monkey trekking tour is perfect for guests who are already in Kigali City.

Stop for a cup of tea/coffee at one of the City Cafes, and discuss the details of the tour with your safari guide, on what to expect in the upcoming days. The journey to Volcanoes National Park lasts about 3-4 hours, and after settling into your accommodation, your field guide is happy to take you to the surrounding areas for a little exploration. Better still, you can also simply relax at your Lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and visit the Gorilla Guardians’ Village

In the morning, you will depart your Safari Lodge for a half-day excursion into Volcanoes National Park, which is arguably one of the World’s most popular gorilla trekking destinations. This Park is famous and one of the most visited, with over 12 habituated gorilla families to trek and spend time with the Giant Apes as they go about their daily routines.

First, transfer to the Park Headquarters for a briefing on the guidelines to be followed by trekking and observing the Giant Apes. Spend 1-6 hours searching for the endangered mountain gorillas, then spend the next hour watching them go about their normal lives uninterrupted by your visit. Other wildlife species you will see on this gorilla trek include forest elephants, buffaloes, spotted hyenas, duikers, bushbucks, and others, alongside bird species that include the Albertine Rift endemics.

Start the day with breakfast at the Lodge, then transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters for a briefing on the rules and regulations to be followed while tracking the frisky primates that call this Park home. You will get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to track one of the two habituated golden monkey troops that occupy the foot of Mount Sabyinyo, and the search for them lasts 1-3 hours. Afterward, you have one hour with these interesting creatures and return to the Lodge for an early lunch.

Later, it is time to say goodbye to Volcanoes National Park by transferring to Kigali Airport in time to catch your flight home. Safe travels!
