Guidelines for Uganda and Rwanda gorilla tours
For peaceful and enjoyable gorilla tours in Uganda and Rwanda, responsible conservation and government bodies have put guidelines that govern the adventure. At the start of every gorilla trek, travelers are gathered at the respective park headquarters and introduced to the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. These guidelines apply before and after meeting the gorillas
These include
• Do not trek gorillas when sick. The endangered gorillas are man’s close relatives sharing over 98% of human genes. This make them susceptible to human genes.
• Do not look direct into the eyes of the gorillas. The endangered primates are shy and a direct eye contact makes them irritated and uncomfortable
• Do not eat or drink in the presence of the gorillas
• Do not smoke in the presence of gorillas
• Do not litter in the park
• Do not touch the gorillas
• Do not run when a gorilla charges. Just step back, slow down and lie low
• Do not use flash light cameras. This irritates the gorillas
