Day 1: Pick up –Transfer to Akagera National Park -Evening Game drive

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up –Transfer to Akagera National Park –Evening Game drive

After breakfast, meet your safari guide and get briefed about the 6-day Rwanda safari and Lake Kivu tour. To start the day, expect to embark on a short Kigali city tour which involves exploring the Kigali genocide memorial, the Kandt house, plus the presidential museum. Time permitting, you may also visit the Kimironko market where you can purchase some fresh fruits and other items. At the market, observe the locals as they go about their selling and buying.

You will have lunch break and later, you will be transferred to Akagera National Park. Akagera is set in the Eastern Province Rwanda and getting there takes about 2.5 hours. At Akagera National Park, you will get a warm welcome from freely roaming wildlife in the vast savanna plains. Proceed to your pre-booked accommodation option for relaxation. Late in the afternoon, you will depart from the lodge ready for the evening game drive. In a 4×4 safari vehicle, expect to search for variety of wildlife, including nocturnal animals and birds. It is in the evening when most of these species become active for the night.

Day 2: Morning Game drive –Boat ride on Lake Ihema

Have a hefty breakfast at lodge and after, you will have a guided game drive in the vast plains of Akagera National Park. Expect to embark on the most enriching game viewing game track for your sunrise game drive. Catch up with early risers as they become active for the day.

Diverse wildlife species should be expected to spot, including the buffaloes, lions, elephants, leopards, lions, zebras, giraffes, and hyenas. Akagera is also most popular for its diverse antelope families including the cape elands, duikers, klipspringers, and impalas. You will return to the lodge to relax and have a leisurely lunch.

In the afternoon, you will have an additional boat cruise excursion. This rewards nature enthusiasts with great sightings of aquatic species including hippos, crocodiles, and aquatic bird species. Return from the boat cruise to relax and dine at the lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Enjoy an early breakfast and after, check out of the lodge. Today, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park and using your 4×4 safari vehicle, you will be viewing the breathtaking hills plus scenic lakes in the countryside. On getting to Volcanoes National Park, you will check in your respective accommodation option.

Day 4: Mountain Gorilla trekking – Visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village

Gorilla trekking is a unique experience awaiting you today. Your day will begin with an early breakfast and later, you will proceed for briefing. The briefing session involves learning more about the guidelines to be followed during gorilla trekking in the jungle of Volcanoes National Park. The actual trekking will start at around 8:00 am where you will spend about 2-6 hours in the wild, which includes 1 hour on a face-to-face encounter with a family of mountain gorillas.

Return from trekking gorillas in Volcanoes National Park and settle for late lunch. In the afternoon, your guide will accompany you to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village. At Iby’Iwacu Village, you will get a chance to learn more about the distinct cultures, traditions, and practices of Rwandan people. In addition, expect also great entertainment from the locals as they showcase their distinct dances and musical performances.

Day 5: Golden Monkey tracking – Transfer to Lake Kivu

Get up early to organize for the day and later join the rest of the guests at Kinigi for another session of briefing. Today, you will have insight into the guidelines for golden monkey tracking and also get the park ranger guide to lead you on your adventure. It will be a short trekking expedition expected to last for 2-5 hours with a guarantee of an hour for you to observe how the golden monkeys behave and taking pictures.

Start walking back to the lodge for to have a relaxed moment. Lunch will be provided and expect to have the rest of the evening at Lake Kivu.

Day 6: Canoeing and Island tour – Transfer to Kigali for drop off                                                                                    

Have a tasty breakfast and after you will catch up with a canoe ride on Lake Kivu. Embark on a journey to experience on Lake Kivu, which includes a visit the island. The Amahoro Island is a peaceful island on Lake Kivu. After you have explored the scenic Lake Kivu, you will check out of your resort and be transferred back to Kigali.
