Seychelles Travel Cost 2027
Let us be upfront: Seychelles is expensive. Not “slightly more than Thailand” expensive — genuinely expensive, on a par with the Maldives or French Polynesia for mid-range and luxury travel. But it is also more varied than its reputation suggests. You can visit Seychelles on a real budget if you know how, and at the luxury end, you are getting something that justifies the price. This guide gives you an honest Seychelles cost breakdown for 2027 across all three budget tiers.

How Much Does a Seychelles Holiday Cost?
A rough daily budget per person (excluding international flights):
- Budget traveller: USD 120–180/day (guesthouse or self-catering, local restaurants, ferry transport)
- Mid-range traveller: USD 300–600/day (3–4-star hotel, restaurant meals, mix of ferry and flights)
- Luxury traveller: USD 800–3,000+/day (top resorts, private island lodges, all-inclusive rates)
These are on-island costs. International flights add significantly and are covered separately below.
International Flights: What to Expect
From the UK: GBP 600–1,200 return depending on airline and season (British Airways via Dubai, Air France via Paris, Emirates via Dubai). From the US: USD 1,200–2,200 return via Dubai or Addis Ababa. From Nairobi with Kenya Airways: USD 350–700 return — making the East Africa safari–beach combination very practical. Book 3–4 months ahead for the best fares; Christmas travel needs 6–12 months notice.
Accommodation Costs
Accommodation is by far the biggest variable. The range is wider than most destinations:
- Budget (USD 60–120/night): Guesthouses and self-catering units across all three main islands. Many are genuinely lovely — sea views, air conditioning, kitchenettes. La Digue tends to offer the best value for money in this category.
- Mid-range (USD 150–400/night): Comfortable hotels and boutique properties with pools. Some excellent mid-range options on Praslin and Mahé rival resorts at double the price in other regions.
- Luxury (USD 500–3,000+/night): Where Seychelles really sets itself apart globally. North Island, Fregate Island Private, Six Senses Zil Pasyon, and Four Seasons Seychelles are genuine world-best properties.
The smart budget move: Stay on La Digue. Guesthouses there cost less than equivalent properties on Mahé, you travel everywhere by bicycle (free or negligible cost), and the island is, if anything, the most beautiful of the three.
Food and Drink Costs
- Local snack bar (katrol): SCR 80–150 per meal (USD 5–10)
- Mid-range restaurant main course: SCR 300–600 (USD 20–40)
- Hotel restaurant dinner per person: SCR 700–1,400 (USD 50–100)
- Local SeyBrew beer: SCR 60–120 (USD 4–8)
- Self-catering grocery basket per day: SCR 400–800 (USD 27–55)
The best eating in Seychelles is the local Creole food: grilled red snapper, octopus curry, breadfruit chips. It is the most affordable option and also the most delicious one.
Getting Between Islands
- Ferry Mahé–Praslin: SCR 450–600 return (USD 30–42); 55 minutes
- Ferry Praslin–La Digue: SCR 200–280 return (USD 14–20); 15 minutes
- Air Seychelles Mahé–Praslin: USD 80–130 one way; 15 minutes
- Bicycle hire on La Digue: SCR 100–150/day (USD 7–10)
- Taxi on Mahé (no meters — agree price first): USD 15–40 per trip
- Car hire on Mahé or Praslin: USD 50–80/day
Activities and Experiences
- Snorkelling boat trip: USD 50–80 per person
- Whale shark snorkelling: USD 100–150 per person
- Scuba diving (2 dives): USD 120–180 per person
- Vallée de Mai entry (Praslin): USD 22 per adult
- Curieuse Island tortoise day trip: USD 50–70 per person

Is Seychelles Worth It?
For beach lovers and honeymooners, yes — unequivocally. The question is more nuanced when you compare it with Zanzibar (40–60% cheaper) or Diani Beach in Kenya (even more affordable). If your priority is Indian Ocean beach relaxation at the lowest cost, both of those deliver it. If you want the specific experience of Seychelles — the granite, the coco de mer, the tortoises wandering the beach, that particular quality of light over the water — there is no substitute, and the premium is worth paying.
