How the Boat Cruise Works

The launch departs from Paraa jetty on the south bank of the Victoria Nile inside Murchison Falls National Park. Two departures daily: 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Both cover the same 17-kilometre route upstream to the base of the falls and return.

The cruise takes 2.5 to 3 hours. A UWA-licensed ranger guide accompanies every trip. Life jackets provided. At the falls base, the boat holds position for 20 to 30 minutes — you stand at water level looking directly up at the gorge.

Tips from Our Guides

Bring a telephoto lens. 200 to 400mm is most useful on the boat. Hippos and crocodiles are close, birds reward the extra reach.

Layer up for the morning cruise. The river is cool before 10:00 AM. A light jacket is enough.

Combine with the hike to the top. Disembark at the base and hike 45 minutes to the summit. Your vehicle meets you at the top. The view from above the gorge is the most photographed scene in Murchison Falls National Park.

Best Time to Visit

How to Get to Paraa Jetty
