Part of our Uganda Safari Guide 2027 — the complete resource for gorillas, chimps, parks and what to expect on a Uganda safari.
See all sample plans in our Uganda Safari Itinerary Guide 2027 — 3, 5, 7 and 10-day routes through gorillas, chimps and Uganda’s game parks.

A 10 day Uganda safari itinerary is the most complete Uganda safari you can do  covering all four of the country’s key wildlife destinations: gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Big Five game drives and the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest, and the Nile boat cruise to the base of Murchison Falls. With ten days you can also add a gorilla habituation experience and a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking — completing Uganda’s “big seven” primates and the full Big Five in a single trip. This guide covers the day-by-day route, lodge recommendations and costs.

10 Day Uganda Safari Day by Day

Days 1–3: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

10 Day Uganda wildlife safariFly from Entebbe to Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip on Day 1 (75 minutes). Two wildlife days in Bwindi: a standard gorilla trek on Day 2 ($700 permit, one hour with the family) and the Gorilla Habituation Experience on Day 3 ($1,500, full day from dawn to dusk with a family still being habituated). The habituation experience is only available in Rushaga sector and gives a fundamentally different encounter — four to six hours with the gorillas rather than one, witnessing nesting, feeding, play and silverback behaviour across a full day. Only 4 people per group.

Overnights: Bwindi area. Mid-range: Mahogany Springs, Gorilla Safari Lodge. Luxury: Bwindi Lodge, Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge, Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp.

Day 4: Transfer via Ishasha to Queen Elizabeth NP

Drive north from Bwindi through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth NP — home to Uganda’s famous tree-climbing lions. A 1.5–2 hour game drive through Ishasha’s fig tree savannah often yields lions resting in the canopy, 3–6 metres above the ground. Continue to Mweya Peninsula for check-in and a short afternoon drive.

Overnight near Mweya, Queen Elizabeth NP. Mid-range: Mweya Safari Lodge, Jacana Safari Lodge. Luxury: Kyambura Gorge Lodge, Ishasha Wilderness Camp.

Day 5: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Full day in Queen Elizabeth. Morning Kasenyi Plains game drive (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, Uganda kob). Afternoon Kazinga Channel boat cruise ($30, 2 hours): hippo pods at arm’s length, enormous Nile crocodiles, elephant and buffalo at the water’s edge. The channel connects Lakes Edward and George and has one of the highest hippo densities in Africa. 600+ bird species in the park.

Overnight: same Queen Elizabeth lodge.

Days 6–7: Kibale Forest National Park

10-Day Uganda SafariMorning game drive in Queen Elizabeth, then drive north to Kibale (3 hours). Afternoon Crater Lakes circuit near Fort Portal  a ring of volcanic crater lakes in the hills, some turquoise, some black, surrounded by tea and coffee. Day 7: chimpanzee trekking in Kibale ($200, 1,500+ chimps, highest density in Africa) and afternoon Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary ($10) for sitatunga, red colobus and 200+ bird species.

Overnights: Kibale area. Mid-range: Primate Lodge Kibale. Luxury: Kyaninga Lodge (crater lake setting), Ndali Lodge.

Day 8: Transfer to Murchison Falls via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Drive north from Fort Portal to Murchison Falls NP (4–5 hours). Stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary en route (2 hours from Kampala) for guided rhino tracking on foot — Uganda’s only wild white rhino population, 35+ animals in a 70km² fenced sanctuary. Walking with rhino at close range is a memorable experience, completing the Big Five for the trip. Continue to Murchison Falls and check in.

Overnight near Murchison Falls. Mid-range: Pakuba Safari Lodge, Nile Safari Lodge. Luxury: Chobe Safari Lodge, Baker’s Lodge.

Day 9: Murchison Falls National Park

Uganda’s largest national park and home to one of the world’s most powerful waterfalls — the entire Nile is forced through a 7-metre gap in the Rift Valley escarpment at Murchison Falls, creating a thundering column visible for kilometres. Morning game drive on the north bank (lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, Rothschild giraffe). Afternoon Nile boat cruise ($30, 3 hours to the falls base): hippo in herds of 50+, Nile crocodiles, and the falls themselves viewed from the water — one of Uganda’s defining experiences. Optional: hike to the top of the falls (1 hour, dramatic views into the gorge).

Overnight: same Murchison lodge.

Day 10: Return to Entebbe

Morning game drive on the north bank before the 4–5 hour drive south to Entebbe. The road passes through Kampala; allow time for airport check-in. Alternatively, a charter flight from Pakuba airstrip to Entebbe (45 minutes) is available if time is tight.

Best Time and FAQs

Best time: June–August for best trail conditions in Bwindi and Kibale. December–February for the short dry season with fewer visitors. October–November is the best value period  lodge rates drop 25–35% and all activities run normally.

Is 10 days enough for four Uganda parks? Yes — this itinerary covers Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth, Kibale and Murchison Falls comfortably with one night each in transit. The pace is steady rather than rushed. Adding an 11th or 12th day would allow a second Murchison game drive or a Kidepo Valley extension.

What is the gorilla habituation experience vs a standard trek? The standard gorilla trek ($700) gives exactly one hour with a fully habituated family. The Gorilla Habituation Experience ($1,500) gives 4–6 hours with a family still being habituated — smaller groups (4 people), more time and more dynamic behaviour as the gorillas are less settled around humans. Only available in Rushaga sector of Bwindi.
