Best Time to Visit Seychelles 2027

The question we hear most often before a Seychelles trip: “When should we go?” And the answer depends almost entirely on what you want out of the holiday. Calm beaches? Wildlife? The best value? A whale shark in the water next to you? The timing changes each time. Here is the honest month-by-month picture for 2027.

The Two Seasons in Seychelles

Seychelles sits between two opposing trade wind systems, and they shape everything about when to visit.

The northwest season runs October to April. This is the warmer, calmer period — seas are flat across all coasts, water temperatures hit 28–30°C, and snorkelling visibility is at its best. There are occasional afternoon showers, but they are short and warm. This season covers the peak tourist period (December, January) as well as the excellent shoulder months on either side.

The southeast season runs May to September. The trade winds pick up, making south-facing coasts choppy and sometimes rough. North-facing beaches — Beau Vallon on Mahé, Anse Lazio on Praslin — stay sheltered and swimmable. It is windier and cooler (25–27°C), but August is paradoxically one of the busiest months because European families are on holiday.

Month by Month: The Real Picture

January & February — Warm, Calm, Expensive

These are post-peak months: the Christmas rush has passed but the sea stays flat and warm. Good for almost everything — beaches, snorkelling, diving. Prices begin dropping from the December peak. Whale sharks are less common now. If you want the warmest, calmest water without December prices, February is quietly excellent.

March & April — Our Favourite Months

March and April are arguably the best overall time to visit. The sea is warm, the winds are light, prices are below peak, and the islands are noticeably quieter. April can bring heavier afternoon showers but the temperature and sea conditions are superb. If you are flexible, aim for late March or early April.

May & June — Value Season Begins

The southeast winds arrive in May. South coasts start to roughen; north coasts stay calm. Prices drop meaningfully from April levels. This is a good time for budget-conscious travellers who do not mind staying on north-facing beaches and avoiding the wilder south-coast spots. The landscape turns more lush from the rain.

July & August — Windy but Busy

The strongest trade winds blow in July. Ironically, August is one of the busiest months of the year — and one of the most expensive — because European families take summer holidays here regardless of the wind. If you go in August, stick to north-coast beaches and know that conditions will improve by late September. Good for windsurfing and kitesurfing.

September & October — The Hidden Gem Window

September sees the winds ease. By October, the seas calm right down, temperatures rise, and whale sharks begin appearing in Seychelles waters. October is one of the best months to visit — warm, calm, quieter than peak, and with the possibility of a whale shark encounter. Prices are reasonable. This is when we tell most clients to go.

November — Warm and Quiet

The northwest season re-establishes. November is warm, pleasant, and significantly quieter than December. Whale sharks continue into late November. A genuinely underrated month that suits anyone who wants the full Seychelles experience without paying peak-season prices.

December — Peak Season

The most popular and most expensive month. Seas are flat, it is gloriously warm, and there is a festive atmosphere. But you will pay 20–40% more for almost everything, and popular resorts book out 6–12 months in advance. Worth it for the right celebration — but plan and book very early.

Combining with an East Africa Safari

If you are adding Seychelles to a Kenya or Tanzania safari, October–November is an excellent window for both. The Masai Mara is outstanding in October — the tail end of the wildebeest migration — and then Seychelles in November gives you calm seas and potential whale shark encounters. April–May also works well: the long rains in East Africa mean quieter parks and lower costs, and Seychelles is at its most beautiful. See our Seychelles travel guide for the full picture.
