1 Day rhino tracking guide

Assemble at the sanctuary reception where you are registered and briefed on the rules, regulations, and safety guidelines of the rhino tracking adventure.  Thereafter, an armed ranger guide will guide on foot trekking through the bushes in search of the critically endangered rhinos. The rhinos are wild creatures that freely roam in the 70 square kilometers of the sanctuary. The trek to see rhinos usually takes roughly 2-3 hours, depending on the location of the endangered rhinos and your hiking speed. You are advised to keep a distance of seven meters away from the rhinos. In addition to rhinos, the sanctuary is also home to other wild animals such as antelopes, waterbucks, plain zebras, Black and white colobus, Aardvark, and birds such as shoebill stork and golden crested crane, among others.

Rules and regulations of Rhino Tracking

The age limit is 15 years. Travelers below 15 years are not allowed to engage in the adventure

  1. Keep a distance of seven meters away from the rhinos
  2. Do not use flash cameras
  3. Trek with an armed ranger guide. You are not allowed to trek alone
  4. Do not litter in the sanctuary
  5. Do not shout when with the Rhinos
  6. Be observant to see Rhinos hiding in the bushes and mud
  7. Dress in neural colored clothes
  8. Do not touch or feed the rhinos

Cost of Rhino tracking

The cost of rhino tracking at Ziwa is categorized depending on the traveler’s residence. The rates are $50 for foreign non-residents, $45 for foreign residents, and 40,000 shillings for East African citizens. Foreign non-resident children pay $ 25, resident children pay $2, while East African children pay 15000 shillings.  The cost includes entrance and guiding fees.
