Getting to Uganda From France
There are no direct flights from France to Entebbe. All connections require a stopover. From Paris Charles de Gaulle — the main international hub for French travellers — the main routing options are:
- Via Brussels — Brussels Airlines is one of the best-connected carriers between Paris and Entebbe, with a strong Africa network and reliable connections through Brussels. Total travel time is approximately eleven to thirteen hours.
- Via Amsterdam — KLM connects Paris CDG to Entebbe through Amsterdam Schiphol with well-timed connections. This is a consistent option for French travellers.
- Via Addis Ababa — Ethiopian Airlines offers Paris CDG to Entebbe via Addis Ababa with competitive fares and good timing.
- Via Istanbul — Turkish Airlines connects Paris to Entebbe via Istanbul with competitive fares, particularly for economy travellers.
- Via Dubai — Emirates offers the Paris CDG–Dubai–Entebbe routing for those seeking a premium Business Class option or a stopover in Dubai.
From Lyon, Marseille, or Nice, the standard routing is a connecting flight to Paris CDG before the main Africa departure, or a direct connection to Amsterdam or Brussels.
Visa and Entry Requirements
French passport holders require a Uganda tourist visa. The Uganda e-visa (currently USD 50 for single entry) can be applied for online before departure and is the most convenient option. Processing takes approximately three to five working days. A valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is a mandatory entry requirement for Uganda — carry your Yellow Card at all times during travel.
Recommended Itinerary From France
Given the travel time involved, eight to ten days in Uganda is the practical minimum for a rewarding gorilla trekking safari from France. A well-paced itinerary:
- Day 1: Fly Paris CDG; arrive Entebbe. Transfer to Entebbe or Kampala for an overnight rest.
- Days 2–3: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest via Mbarara. Optional stop at Lake Mburo National Park for an afternoon game drive and zebra viewing.
- Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi — the highlight of the trip.
- Days 5–6: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Game drives and the boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel — one of Africa’s best wildlife boat safaris for hippo and bird life.
- Days 7–8: Optional Kibale Forest chimpanzee trekking or Murchison Falls extension. Return to Entebbe.
- Day 9: Fly back to Paris.
A ten-day extension can include Murchison Falls National Park in the north — one of Africa’s most dramatic waterfalls — and a Nile boat safari. Rwanda can be added as a second country for a combined Uganda and Rwanda gorilla trekking itinerary.
Best Time to Travel From France
June to August is Uganda’s main dry season and aligns well with French summer holidays. Permits and lodges for July and August sell out quickly — book at least five to six months ahead for peak summer travel. December is an excellent alternative with good dry conditions and the festive season atmosphere at Bwindi’s lodges. January is also highly recommended: reliable weather, fewer crowds, and often better lodge availability.
